The multi-piece DIN label must meet strict criteria for both non-reactive materials and layout. Materials must be FDA compliant and are rigidly tested for freeze, thaw, aging and migration methods to ensure purity of blood units.

Layout and piggyback construction require variable size and quantity of blood label components - each with the same unit number - to be used on bags, files, test tubes and vials. Barcodes must also meet requirements for various blood testing equipment. The label is used primarily with bags containing blood samples for testing or units for transfusion.
